Institutional Staking

Institutional Staking — Earn yield, secure networks

Delegate native tokens to trusted validators to earn protocol rewards while our custody and risk controls protect assets and minimize slashing.

What is staking?

Understanding Staking

Staking refers to the act of committing digital assets to support the operation, governance, or security of a blockchain network. This can take different forms depending on the protocol — such as validating transactions, providing liquidity, locking tokens in smart contracts, or participating in consensus mechanisms like Proof of Stake (PoS), Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS), or newer hybrid models.

How Staking Works

Participants lock or delegate a specific amount of cryptocurrency to a network mechanism, validator, or protocol module. These assets are typically subject to a defined lock-up or cooldown period before redemption. In return, participants help secure and govern the network, and are compensated with staking rewards proportional to their contribution.

The Importance of Staking

By staking, participants play a critical role in maintaining the health, performance, and integrity of blockchain ecosystems. In exchange for their contribution — whether through securing the network, validating transactions, or providing capital to decentralized systems — they earn rewards, typically in the form of additional tokens distributed by the protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is staking?

How does delegated staking work?

In DPoS (Delegated Proof of Stake), users stake their assets to a certain validator node. The more assets staked to a validator node, the higher the chances of the node being chosen to propose new blocks to be added to the blockchain. If the proposal of a new block is successful, the validator node is rewarded, and users who delegated to the validator node will receive a share of the rewards proportional to their stake.

What are some of the risks involved?

Staking is the most secure way to strengthen the network and generate yield(rewards). The only risk comes in two forms: slashing and missed rewards. Blockchain Network/Protocol penalises for validator misbehavior (e.g., prolonged downtime, equivocation/double‑signing) that can reduce staked balances or missing block and participatory rewards

How can I start staking?

If you do not need a custodial solution:

  • Use a wallet that supports staking for the target blockchain.
  • Hold the native token on the correct chain.
  • In the wallet’s staking/delegation section, select a reputable validator (e.g., Hex Trust) and delegate your tokens.

If you do need a custodial solution:

How can I ensure my assets are safe when staking?

If you are using a self-custodial solution, do ensure that you only connect to trusted websites, and follow usual best practices for keeping your wallet safe.

A key benefit of using HexSafe v2 to stake your assets is you will be able to enjoy the benefits of staking, as well as the benefits of military grade security from a fully-licensed digital asset custodian.
